REVIEW: How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories by Holly Black
How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories is a collection of stories by Holly Black set in the world of the Folk of Air but this time instead of hearing from Jude, we hear from Cardan and he tells his side of the story. This is primarily set within the moments that took place in The Queen of Nothing but shows glimpses into Cardan’s past and how he grew up to be the way that he is and all of his vulnerabilities. We even see a moment shared between Cardan and Jude previously told from Jude’s perspective in the original trilogy. We explore Cardan’s responsibilities as he is the High King of Elfhame and how he must take the kingdom and turn it into something better than before.
Holly Black truly is one of the best to write fae, she turns them into an compelling tale of trickery and manipulation whilst also making you fall in love with them. These stories look into Cardan and his life but also look into fairytales within the universe and teaches the readers about a boy with a heart of stone and his cursed bride. These stories are another entry into the folk of air series and I loved being back into this world.
4 out of 5 stars.
